NZYSW 2022

Audition Information

New Zealand Youth Symphonic Winds, in its ninth year, is the National Youth Concert Band for young musicians in New Zealand

It is an initiative of New Zealand Concert Bands Association. Our Music Director is Dr Kevin Cameron and he will hold this position through to 2022. To find out more about the NZYSW in general, please check out the About NZYSW page.

There is also an important update to our current season in light of the current Government Alert Level changes and travel restrictions both regionally and internationally.

The NZYSW committee have been advised to postpone the start of this next NZYSW programme. We would therefore begin this programme with the July Winter course (11-15 July 2022) and will extend players membership to include the January 2023 (Summer) course.

COVID has obviously brought in much uncertainty and unpredictability to date, and with regards to this event, has most notably affected two of our key considerations (Music Director and venue), thus the decision to push the start-date of the programme out is the logical one. As an organisation, NZCBA is reviewing how our events will run within the Government’s Covid Protection Framework, and as we are currently situated for January, we would be unable to host a live concert as a part of the programme.

We understand that some of you will be disappointed at having to wait, however we hope that you will find reassurance in knowing that we are doing everything we can to keep you and your whānau safe. We are working incredibly hard at present to ensure a safe, fun, and musically superior event for all participants. Details of exactly how these events will look will come over the next few weeks.

The decision to delay the start of this programme is not one we have come to lightly, and we do thank you for your patience whilst we have taken this time to make what we believe to be the right call.
