Cpl. Rebecca Steel

Corporal Rebecca Steel is from Christchurch where she began her musical studies at the CSM. Her first permanent position after leaving Canterbury University was with the Australian Opera. She then travelled to London to study with the illustrious William Bennett. She has held roles as Principal Flute in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Wellington and currently with the RNZAF band. At other times she has been a freelancer, playing with orchestras in London, Sydney and Wellington. She loves teaching and playing chamber music with colleagues such as “ Flute Squadron” and the RNZAF wind quintet “The Spitfires” which are groups comprising colleagues from the RNZAF band.


L.A.C Nina Noble

Leading Aircraftman Nina Noble is a trumpeter from Ōtautahi, Christchurch. Her journey first began with teacher David Gallagher and the Woolson Junior Brass Band. At Cashmere High School, Nina broadened her musical palate through barbershop, jazz, choral music, and songwriting. Nina was Principal Trumpet of the NZYSW from 2016 to 2019.


She has recently graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a Bmus(Hons) in Classical Performance, and conjoint BA in Education & Psychology. Nina is a Deane Scholar, and has won numerous awards during her time at the New Zealand School of Music. Whilst in Wellington, she performed with the NZSO, CSO, Orchestra Wellington, WBB, & Other Futures Jazz Orchestra. Nina joined the
Royal New Zealand Air Force Band in 2022, with whom she recently played the Arutunian Trumpet Concerto. Nina is Principal Trumpet of the National Youth Orchestra 2024, and has also played alongside Grammy Award winning bass
Jonathan Lemalu.
