NZYSW 2021

For the 2021 season, New Zealand Youth Symphonic Winds invited young musicians to attend a Winter Intensive in Wellington in mid-July, led by Wellington conductor Brent Stewart. Dr Cameron was unable to attend due to COVID restrictions.

Were unable to offer a Summer event in January 2021 due to COVID.


Winter 2021

New Zealand Youth Symphonic Winds returned with its 2021 Winter Concert.  This concert they were led by Music Director Brent Stewart.

The concert at Wellington College was well attended and enthusiastically received.  

The musicians benefited from sectionals led by musicians from NZSO.

NZYSW extends its gratitude to NZSO and Pub Charity for their support.

Artistic Director – Dr. Kevin Cameron

Dr Kevin Cameron has been Artistic Director of NZYSW since 2019. He is an enthusiastic and experienced leader in education, where a passion for teaching and the nurturing of positive relationships are central to his practice. As an exemplary conductor, professional musician and teaching artist Kevin brings a unique perspective to leadership, stakeholder relationships, team building and high-performance outcomes through his diverse experience in schools, universities and professional industry groups. He is Director of Performing Arts at Gippsland Grammar in Sale (Vic), Australia.

Music Director – Brent Stewart

Brent Stewart is a conductor, percussionist and pianist based in Wellington.  He studied music at Auckland University, Victoria University of Wellington and the New Zealand School of Music. Brent is the Music Director of New Zealand’s largest symphonic choir, Orpheus Choir Wellington, the Assistant Director and piano accompanist for the New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir, Principal Percussionist of Orchestra Wellington, a casual percussionist with NZSO, and was the Music Director of the Hutt Valley Orchestra for a decade. Recent engagements include conducting around NZ. Brent is also the director of NZSO’s live streams and is a choral conductor mentoring around New Zealand.
