West City Youth Concert Band was established in 2015 with the purpose of providing a place for students to belong and feel valued for their musical talents. Under the guidance of conductor Matthew Stenbo and West City Concert Band, the band aims to foster growth in music and character, while supporting musical education within our West Auckland communities.
In February 2005, a group of musicians and conductors came together to discuss the possibility of the formation of an independent wind band in Hawke’s Bay, and as a result Bay Cities’ Symphonic Band was born. The task of conducting the Band has been shared in the main by John Snowling, former Director of Music at Lindisfarne College Hastings, and Brian Kennedy, an experienced bandsman and past Bandmaster of the Napier Salvation Army.
In addition to presenting concerts around the district, the Band encourages school bands to become more involved, by holding joint concerts whenever possible. Each year the Band attends a number of events such as The Hawke’s Bay Festival of Bands, The Feilding Band Festival, The National Concert Bands Festival and visits to other towns outside of the district. The Band has been very successful and had attained several Gold and Silver Awards.
We are a community organisation with members ranging in age from high school music students to senior citizens. We encourage young players in the Band and offer a sense of belonging whilst they learn about commitment and respect, and improve their musical skills. We share a passion for promoting quality wind band music throughout Hawke’s Bay. We strive for musical excellence whilst encouraging friendship and camaraderie.

Orewa College Symphonic Band is in its second year of existence. It was formed to give students who had been learning an instrument for a relatively short time the experience of playing in a concert band and help to hone their skills and prepare them for entry into the senior band. Ages range from 12 to 15 years and they rehearse for one hour a week after school. Most of the students have come through the college band project and have lessons in school. The band has performed at festivals and for the local community. They enjoy performing a mix of jazz music, and pieces written specifically for concert band.

Wellington City Concert Band was formed in 2011 and is Wellington’s largest community symphonic band with over 50 musicians. The band performs challenging music at a high standard and gives several community concerts a year performing a range of music including classical transcriptions, jazz, swing, and modern symphonic works. Whilst fun and social, the band works hard to achieve excellence in playing with many semi-pro musicians attracted to join as well as the top school-aged wind, brass and percussion players of all ages.
